How to Make Apple Cider Cranberry Sauce

This apple cider cranberry sauce is so easy to make. You put all of the ingredients used to make the sauce into a saucepan at the same time. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook until the cranberries pop and the liquids thicken. At the end of cooking I like to take a spoon and smash up the cranberries against the saucepan. Totally optional but I recommend it to those of you who prefer a less chunky sauce. Sauce is still chunky but smaller chunks than if you skip smashing the cranberries.

Ingredients needed to make this cranberry sauce

  • cranberries
  • apple cider
  • granulated sugar
  • water

This sauce goes well with turkey for Thanksgiving dinner and tastes amazing paired with spiral ham for Christmas dinner.

  3. Wow! My favorite sauce is cranberry sauce. I like the way cranberry goes with meat and poultry. This exquisite sweet and sour taste… Perfect! I’ve never tried to add apple cider and never thought they go so nicely together. I think I’m gonna cook it for meat on New Year’s Eve. Thank you very much for the idea, Julie!
By the way, I have my own recipe for cranberry sauce. It’s not mine, well, but I modified it and add a “secret” ingredient. Probably, somebody will be interested in it. I put 3 tablespoons of cherry liqueur to the same amount of cranberry. If you don’t have it, you can add another liqueur, probably, cloudberry, lingonberry, or cranberry ones. If you don’t have any liqueurs, you can use red wine, but don’t forget to reduce the amount by half (1,5 tsp).
This sauce is great for all types of meat, especially for turkey.
Julie, thank you for sharing such wonderful recipes! I appreciate your work! Keep it up.
    And Happy New Year!
